Rough endoplasmic reticulum

The rough endoplasmic reticulum (rough ER or rER): is an organelle with a membrane bound structure found in eukaryotic cells. Its rough appearance in electron micrographs is caused by ribosomes that are attached to its membrane. Primary biological functions of the rough ER include quality control, post-translational modifications, folding of proteins, and protein synthesis.
