Hepatocytes: the primary functional cells in the liver, play a crucial role in maintaining liver homeostasis. These cells are responsible for various cellular functions, such as carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism, detoxification, and activation of immune cells. They can also respond to hormonal signals to adapt to feeding or fasting conditions by either storing or producing glucose as needed.
